Staff Software Engineer, Economic Payments

We build and maintain our own in-house global payments platform because no solution exists with the global reach needed. As the platform grows we’ll be adding new payment partners, global licenses, compliance and regulation controls, and building new payment experiences for our guests and hosts.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Staff Engineer in the Cost and Economics Payments Org you’ll need to be passionate about payments. You will lead through influence and collaboration to transform concepts into reality. Your deep understanding of how money moves between merchant platforms and payment processing partners, including payment gateways, processors, acquirers, card networks, and issuers will be needed for ideating, advocating, and driving cost efficiencies across our payments platform.

 

You’re expected to be comfortable with ambiguity, and help the team enjoy working backward from highly ambiguous starting points by leveraging data, running experiments, and following a structured approach to build business use cases that influence a diverse team of engineers, data scientists, finance, compliance, legal, and business experts. You should be able to guide and navigate the team through technical and regulatory constraints while simultaneously distilling and communicating complex subject matter to payments and non-payment stakeholders. You will have to be passionate about guiding a high-performing team and creating a unique culture. You will be expected to lead the team to tackle these complex challenges.

A Typical Day:

  • A typical day starts with a daily-standup, where you get an accurate view of the team’s output, their technical blockers so that you can provide the right support engineers to move forward in their tasks without any friction.
  • Architect and lead the development of Economics initiatives across Payments Stack.

 

  • Embedding Engineering best practices and being the goto person for all the engineers to technically guidance.
  • Finding ways to improve collaboration and communication within the team and org for a strong team culture.
  • Since most of our initiatives/projects are going to be driven by business savings, you will have to understand Product, Partnership and other XFn orgs to get the project prioritized on their roadmap also if needed.
  • Last, but not least, you’re likely to be the one responsible for recruiting the right engineers by taking interviews and adding new initiatives to drive innovation and tech excellence for the overall India site culture.

 

Your Expertise:

Other Jobs You May Be Interested In

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 9+ years of relevant engineering work experience and 4+ experience working within Payments.
  • Experience with building payments or relevant systems
  • Strong coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.
  • Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available, distributed services in a large service-oriented architecture (SOA) using Java on cloud.

 

  • Familiarity with design patterns, libraries and frameworks for building and testing services, and service-to-service communications
  • Experience in partnering with other leaders in setting product strategy
  • Successfully partnered with Product, Data Science, Finance, Legal, and/or Compliance functions
  • Actively coached and mentored team members in their careers
  • Consistently made cultural choices that positively impact all of engineering
